Drilling for Oil – the Hard Way!

Most people, if asked to imagine (or draw) an image which comes to mind when they think of drilling for oil, would picture some giant piece of machinery boring its way into the ground. But, there are still places in 2016 where traditional methods are still being used to extract a few barrels of black gold.

Tucked away in Wonocolo in Bojonegoro district, East Java, one will find many a crude oil well but not too much heavy machinery around to get it out of the ground.

Local residents here still use extremely simple equipment such as diesel truck engines – or even their own physical strength – to drill well between 100 to 200 metres in depth.

Here are 9 images of a traditional oil field in action and every worker here has our utmost respect.
